Background
One of Tumaini University Makumira’s constituent colleges is Stefano Moshi Memorial University College (SMMUCo). The ELCT Northern Diocese founded the Masoka Management Training Institute in 1991 with the goal of training people for the Church and the country. The Institute offered programs that led to certificates, diplomas, and advanced diplomas. The University College inherited the Institute’s buildings.
The Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) is the owner of the Christ-centered organization SMMUCo. All students are accepted, nevertheless, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sex, or religion. Masoka, Mwika, and Moshi Town are the three campuses that make up this multi-campus university college. Three further campuses are planned: Machame, Siha, and Karatu. Currently, SMMUCo’s primary site is Masoka site.
The Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC) and the first Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT), Stefano Reuben Moshi (19631976), are honored and remembered by the Stefano Moshi Memorial University College (SMMUCo).
